A New Routine

It's hard to believe that we've been here for almost 3 weeks now.  Life here in Lille is definitely different than our New York or Utah life.  That fact that we are 8 and 6 hours ahead respectively definitely affects our time here.

This has been a typical day for us.

Lazy mornings:

We don't get up too early because we've usually been up late the night before.  We aren't huge breakfast eaters so we just kind lounge around until we decide it's time to greet the day.  This is my time to study French and read the Book of Mormon in French.

Errands:

While America still sleeps, this is our time to ourselves.  We get dressed and head out the door to do some shopping or visit a place.  This is my favorite part of the day.  We like to shop at Carre Four which is at the end of the metro line going west.  It's like a big Walmart except good food.

Lunch:
After running errands we finally are hungry and this is our big meal of the day.  We like to get either a big baguette sandwich or some other meal.  My favorite is becoming a jambon et fromage sandwich (ham and cheese on a baguette).

Work day begins:

About 3:00 or 15:00 our day really begins.  This is when NYC is now awake and ready to do business.  Bradford has a daily call at 11:00 a.m. NYC time, and so he'll be on the computer getting ready for that, or answering emails.  By 4:00 or 16:00 we are quietly typing away on our laptops.  As I write and he works, we don't really talk to each other much.  It's our most productive time.

Late dinner:
It usually isn't until about 7:00 or 7:30 (19:00 or 19:30) that we realize we haven't eaten since lunch.  While Bradford works, I'll fix us something light to eat.  We eat and get back to work.

Late nights:

By 10:00 (22:00) America is wide awake and ready for action.  This is when I'm busy with my social media friends, especially those in PG working to defeat Prop 3.  I try to check in with the kids, although Alice  in Alaska, which is 10 hours behind, is hard to get a hold of.  It's hard to want to go to bed.  It's sort of like seeing your parents hosting a dinner party and the babysitter telling you that you have to go bed.  You are afraid your missing all the fun.

We are usually sleep by midnight or a bit later.  Thus the reason for the lazy mornings.

And that's a typical day of living in Lille while Bradford is here with me.  Today will be our last day of this routine since Elise and Johnny are coming tomorrow to spend some time here.  Bradford leaves on Friday, (boo!) and so our empty nester life will come to an end, for now.
